01What Tick stores on your device

• Profile details you choose to provide, including your goals and long-term vision
• Journal entries and their titles
• Voice recordings you make with Dictate, and the text made from them
• Daily habits, completions, and challenge progress
• Journal analysis results and mood trend data
• The name of a place, when you choose to add one to an entry
• Reminder preferences and language settings
• Your Sign in with Apple identifier, used to restore your session

None of this is transmitted to us. We have no way to read it, retrieve it, or restore it. It is included in your device backups, because it lives in the app's local storage — those are handled by Apple under Apple's terms, and we have no access to them either.

You can take a copy of all of it. Profile → Your data → Export a copy writes your profile, journal entries, habits, challenge days, reminder settings and analysis results into a single readable file. iOS hands that file to you and nothing else happens to it: where it goes next is your decision, and the app sends it nowhere. The same screen reads a file back onto a device.

Your Sign in with Apple identifier is deliberately left out of that file. It is how one device recognises you, not something you wrote, and carrying it to another install would attach your data to somebody else's session.

02Journal analysis

Tick can analyse your journal entries to produce a mood score, a short reflection, and a summary of the last 30 days when you ask for one. This runs on your device. We never see your entries, or the analysis produced from them.

03Location

Location is off until you ask for it.

If you tap "Add location" while writing an entry, Tick asks iOS for your location once and turns it into the name of the town or city you are in. That name is stored with the entry on your device, alongside a coordinate rounded to roughly 100 metres — the app only ever displays the name.

Turning a coordinate into a place name is done by Apple's Maps service, so that coordinate is sent to Apple for the lookup, under Apple's privacy policy. It is not sent to us, and no location leaves your device for any other purpose. apple.com/legal/privacy

Removing the location from an entry also stops Tick adding one to new entries, and you can switch location off entirely in iOS Settings. Entries written before you turn it on never gain a location.

04Dictation

The microphone stays off until you tap Dictate.

When you tap Dictate while writing an entry, Tick records what you say and keeps the recording with that entry, in the app's storage on your device. Removing the voice note, or deleting the entry, deletes the recording. An export carries the entry and its text, but not the audio. Unlike the rest of what Tick stores, recordings are left out of your device backups: a new or restored device gets the entry and its text, not the audio.

Turning the recording into text happens on your device as well. Tick uses Apple's speech recognition in its on-device mode only, so the audio is not sent to Apple or to us. If your device has no speech model for your language, the recording is kept and no text is made.

Both permissions are yours to refuse. Without the microphone nothing is recorded; without speech recognition the recording is still kept, and only the text is missing. You can change either in iOS Settings.

05Sign in with Apple, and guest mode

Continue as guest and no identity of any kind is involved. Everything stays on the device.

Sign in with Apple and Apple confirms your identity to the app and provides an identifier. Tick stores it locally so it can restore your session on that device. It is not sent to us, because there is no server to send it to. If you use Hide My Email, we never see a real address. Signing in does not create a Dualshade account — there is no such thing.

06Buying the app

If a Dualshade app is paid for, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, your payment details, or your Apple Account. The app asks Apple whether a purchase exists and stores the answer — unlocked or not — on your device.

07Notifications

If you enable reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device. These are generated by your iPhone, not sent by us, and no data leaves your device to produce them. You can turn reminders off in the app or revoke the permission in iOS Settings.

08Widget and Shortcuts

Tick can show summary progress in a home screen widget and respond to system shortcuts. These read the same on-device data described above and send nothing anywhere.

09When you email us

This is the one place where we do receive personal information.

If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to put in the message, and it stays in our mailbox until we delete it. We use it only to read and answer you. Nothing is sent unless you write and send the message yourself.

10What Tick never does

• No analytics. We do not measure how you use the app.
• No advertising. No ad networks and no advertising identifiers.
• No tracking. Not across other apps, not across websites. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.
• No data brokers. We sell nothing, because we collect nothing.
• No profiling and no automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

This website sets no cookies, counts nothing, and loads no fonts, scripts or images from anyone else. Everything it needs is served from this domain.

11Keeping and deleting

Your app data stays on your device until you remove it. Profile → Account → Delete account wipes everything Tick has stored, and deleting the app removes it too. There is nothing for us to delete on our side, because there is nothing on our side.

12Children

Tick is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or from anyone — beyond the case named above.

13Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, delete and port your personal data, and to complain to a supervisory authority. For app data this is unusual in one respect: we cannot exercise those rights for you, because we do not hold the data — it is on your device and under your control. Portability is the one you can exercise directly, from inside the app. If you have written to us, ask and we will delete the mail.
