Terms · Burn for Mac
Terms, refunds and withdrawal.
What you agree to when you use Burn or buy Burn Pro, and who you deal with for payment.
Last updated: 30 September 2026
1. Who we are
Burn is made by Marius Stellberger, trading as Dualshade, Augustastraße 42, 76709 Kronau, Germany (“we”). Contact: support@dualshade.xyz. Full details are in the Impressum.
2. What these terms cover
These terms govern your use of the Burn app for macOS, in its free version and with Burn Pro. The purchase itself — payment, tax, receipts, refunds and subscription billing — is between you and Stripe, and Stripe's terms apply to it (section 4).
3. Burn and Burn Pro
- Free: the menu bar, Claude Code, and the last 7 days.
- Burn Pro: every supported provider, full history, budgets, limits and export.
Pro is sold as:
- $6 a month, renewing monthly until cancelled;
- $49 a year, renewing yearly until cancelled;
- $79 once, with no renewal: Pro and every update for as long as we offer Burn. If Burn is ever discontinued, the last version keeps working with Pro.
Prices are set in US dollars; Stripe may show them in your local currency. Stripe works out any tax that applies where you live and shows the final price, including that tax, before you pay.
A purchase covers one person, on any number of Macs that person uses. A company may buy Burn Pro for an employee; each purchase then covers that one named person.
4. Payment through Stripe
Checkout runs on Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe (Link) is the merchant of record: you pay Stripe, Stripe sends the receipt, calculates and collects tax, handles refunds, and manages your subscription at link.com. For the purchase, Link's Sold through Link Terms apply, together with the Link privacy policy; checkout shows both before you pay. These terms apply to your use of the software.
5. Subscriptions and cancelling
Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel or change a plan at any time in Burn's Settings, or at link.com. Pro stays on until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then Burn returns to the free version. Nothing on your Mac is deleted when that happens.
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it and Pro stays on while it does. If the payment still cannot be collected, the subscription ends and Burn returns to the free version.
If we change the price of a plan, we tell existing subscribers by email at least 30 days before it applies. The new price starts with your next renewal after that notice, and you can cancel before then.
6. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you can cancel a purchase within 14 days from the day you get access to Burn Pro, without giving a reason. This is set out in Link's Sold through Link Terms, and it applies to the one-time purchase and to the first period of a subscription.
To cancel, contact Link support, follow the steps for requesting a refund, and give “cooling off period” as the reason. You can also write to support@dualshade.xyz and we will refund you ourselves.
7. Refunds
Wherever you live, you get a full refund if you ask within 14 days of a purchase or of a renewal — no questions asked. Ask Link support or write to support@dualshade.xyz. The refund goes back to the way you paid, including any tax. Your statutory rights — for example if Burn Pro does not work as described — are not affected.
If you were charged and Pro did not switch on, do not buy again: type the receipt email into Burn's Unlock screen, or write to support@dualshade.xyz.
8. What Burn's numbers are
Burn adds up what AI tools record on your Mac and what providers report through their APIs. The figures are a working estimate of your spend, not an invoice. A provider's own bill is the authority on what you owe it. Burn keeps included seat usage and billed money in separate totals and does not merge them.
9. Updates
Burn checks for updates with Sparkle and installs signed updates when you allow it. Every update is included: for a subscription, while it is active; for the one-time purchase, as described in section 3.
10. Licence and acceptable use
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use Burn under these terms. You may not resell Burn Pro, share one purchase between different people, or tamper with the licence check. Burn stays our work; these terms do not transfer any rights in it beyond using it.
11. Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act, and where we have given a guarantee. For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of an essential contractual obligation — one the proper performance of the contract depends on and which you may rely on — and then only for the typical, foreseeable damage. Otherwise our liability for slight negligence is excluded.
12. Privacy
How Burn handles data is in the privacy policy. In short: your usage stays on your Mac.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, the new version applies to purchases made after it is published. For a running subscription, we email you at least 30 days before your next renewal; the new version applies from that renewal, and you can cancel before it if you do not agree.
14. Law
German law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. If you buy as a business, the courts at our place of business have jurisdiction, as far as the law allows.
We are not obliged to take part in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration board, and do not do so.
